James called to the bar in 2022 following four years in practice as a solicitor.

Prior to calling, James practiced in personal injury law. He qualified at one of Scotland’s leading personal injury firms and gained considerable experience acting on behalf of pursuers. Thereafter, he practiced in a defender firm where he predominantly acted on behalf of insurance companies. He also conducted numerous debates and proofs at sheriff court level during that time. James therefore has a broad range of personal injury practice having dealt with both pursuer and defender clients.

As a devil, James gained experience with cases involving historical sexual abuse, medical negligence and professional negligence. He also acquired considerable criminal law experience and has particular interest in cases involving sexual offences, murder and misuse of drugs.
